Booking information for motorhomes.
Rates.
Our rates vary depending on the season here in New Zealand. You can either click though on the booking link on the site here or get in touch with us over email or phone to discuss and make your booking.
It can help to be slightly flexible on your booking dates so you can get the best motorhome available for your amazing New Zealand holiday.
Please note we have a minimum booking period over the summer months (December to the end of February) of 14 days and for the rest of the year we have a 5 day minimum hire period.
Airport Pick up and drop off.
If you are flying into Auckland airport, we offer a complimentary pick-up service, from airport to motorhome. This is available between the hours of 10am – 4pm weekdays.
We are also happy to pick you up or drop you to a hotel in the Auckland region on either side of you booking with us. We want to make it easy for you!
One way hire.
New Zealand has two main airports, Auckland and Christchurch.
We can do an Auckland pick up and Christchurch drop off for hire, or vice versa. Other locations for pick up and drop off are available on a request basis. There would be an extra change for this. Please contact us to find out more.
Ferry bookings.
As New Zealand is two main islands, you must cross the Cook Strait between them on a vehicle ferry. You can make bookings through two companies. Bluebridge and Interislander.
We are happy to make these reservations on your behalf and offer a discounted rate for the ticket prices on Bluebridge, otherwise they can be booked directly by you online.
If you do choose to book yourself we recommend to ALWAYS book a fully flexible fare, as plans can change.
Vehicle Insurance.
With our motorhome hire, we include comprehensive vehicle insurance cover, with an excess of $7000. If you wish to reduce the excess amount payable should an unfortunate incident occur, we have 2 options.
‘Some Like it Hot’ drops your deductible to $1000 per incident at a cost of $50 per day, to a maximum of $2000 per hire.
‘The Full Monty’ has no deductible to pay if there is an incident. This is $70 per day, to a maximum of $2400 per hire. This option also includes any windscreen chips or damage to the windscreen in the daily rate. For more info see our insurance page.
* Please note that although you may have travel insurance this might not cover rental vehicles, do check your policy.
Personal Travel Insurance.
We advise that you have your own insurance for your personal belongings, lost or stolen items, travel delays and personal liability or incidents. Our included insurance is only for the vehicle. It does not include any personal effects should something unfortunate occur.
Payment to Roam Motorhomes.
We accept most major credit cards.
We also accept direct bank transfers.
A 25% deposit is required at the time of booking and we must have received the full amount of the hire fee before handing over the keys to motorhome.
Cancellations.
While we understand that circumstances can change, we do have a cancellation policy as follows.
You can cancel the booking and have a full refund more than 60 days from the hire period.
Cancellation 28 – 59 days before the hire period, loss of 25% of rental price.
Cancellation 27 – 8 days before the hire period, loss of 50% of rental price
Cancellation within 7 days of the hire period, loss of 100% of rental price
If a change of date booking can be made instead of a cancellation, we are happy to try to accommodate this request This date change booking must be used within 12 months of the original booking date.
Road User Charges.
In New Zealand diesel does not get taxed at the pump like petrol. We have a system where you pay an extra charge per km driven.
The road user charges will be payable by you for the distance driven while you have the motorhome. This way you are only charged for the actual km travelled.
It is charged at $9 per 100km, and this charge will be calculated and must be paid on return of the vehicle. It is the only final cost we cannot account for at the booking and start of hire.
Drivers License
All hirers who wish to drive the motorhome must hold a full and current driver’s license, held for more than 2 years, which must be sighted at time of pick up.
If you hold an international license that is not in English, a full accredited translation must be available.
We cannot hire to people who have a learner or restricted license. We recommend this translation service page.
Vehicle return
Please note that when you drop off the motorhome the black and grey water tanks must be emptied, and the diesel tank and LPG bottles must be refilled. You will be required to pay the Road User Charges at the drop off. Please make sure you either have cash or a credit card to do so.
Make sure to arrange a time for drop off with us, drop off times are between 9am and 3pm on the last day of your hire.
The only exception is if you have chosen to book the ‘Drop and Go’ option. More info about the ‘Drop and Go’ option is here.
This is general booking information, please note we have full Terms and Conditions that we will require you to sign upon payment of deposit on the motorhome, you are welcome to request a copy by email prior.
