Roam Motorhomes – Insurance.

Coverage

Included in the daily hire rate is comprehensive insurance for the entire period of your hire.
Roam has you covered with a policy that protects you against all accidents and public liability. However, it’s important to note that insurance can be costly due to the value of the motorhome.

Liability and Excess

If the motorhome or any of its equipment is damaged, you are required to contribute to the cost of replacement or repair up to the liability (excess/deductible) amount of NZ$7000. Please be aware that if there are multiple incidents in which the motorhome is damaged, a separate excess of $7000 applies for each incident.

Liability Reduction Plans

To provide peace of mind and minimize risk in case of an accident, we offer optional liability reduction plans. These plans are not compulsory but are popular among travelers and we recommend taking one of them.

They offer different levels of liability coverage and cost:

  • Risky Business. This costs nothing per day, but you assume all risk on the higher excess.
You are liable for up to $7,000 per incident and we would need to take a security deposit with this option.
  • Some like it Hot. $50 per day (to a maximum of $2000)
You are liable for up to $1,000 per incident.
  • The Full Monty. $70 per day (to a maximum of $2400)
    Zero liability per incident.
This option also includes any windscreen chips or cracks.

Damage includes – damage to the hired vehicle, third-party property, windscreens and tires, towing and recovery costs, fire, theft, break-in or vandalism, and vehicle rental costs during repairs.

Any costs incurred will be calculated and recovered at the end of your hire.

Please note the Full Monty option is only available for bookings of 14 days or longer.

Insurance Exclusions

It’s important to be aware that there are situations where the hirer is responsible for the total cost of any damage in the case of an accident. The hirer is responsible for all costs related to:

  • Damage caused willfully or by negligence.
  • The vehicle being driven under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Damage associated with an event where the hirer has been charged by local authorities for not abiding by local road rules.
  • Recovering a vehicle from a situation that the hirer could have prevented, such as abandoning the vehicle or getting it bogged or submerged.
  • Damage caused by exceeding permissible limits when loading the vehicle.
  • Damage caused by drivers not identified on the rental agreement, invalid driver’s license holders, or those with learner’s or probationary licenses.
  • Damage caused by the incorrect use of snow chains.
  • Damage associated with the incorrect use of fuel, including the use of biofuel.
  • Damage caused by hirers’ pets.
  • Damage caused or contributed to by a breach of the Rental Agreement by the hirer.

Please note that insurance damage excess is payable per incident, not per hire. Roam will charge for repairs only and will not deduct the total excess if the repair cost is lower. You will be notified in writing of the repair cost quote before being charged.

Please carefully review the insurance options and exclusions mentioned above. If you have any questions or require further clarification, feel free to ask.
